Poetry Out Loud In-Person

Poetry Out Loud meets on the 2nd Friday of every month to read and discuss poetry from that month's poet or theme. Pick up selected materials for the month from the Downtown Library Information Desk. Weather permitting, Poetry Out Loud will meet on the back lawn outside of the library. Alternatively, the meeting will be on Zoom if needed. Email libraryprograms@flagstaffpubliclibrary.org or call 928-213-2331 for additional information.

This month we will be reading poems selections from Li-Young Lee/"all of it, to the heart."

"Influenced by the classical Chinese poets Li Bo and Tu Fu, Lee’s poetry is noted for its use of silence and, according to Alex Lemon in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, its 'near mysticism' which is nonetheless 'fully engaged in life and memory while building and shaping the self from words.' Though sometimes described as a supremely lyric poet, Lee’s poems often use narrative and personal experience or memories to launch their investigations of the universal."
