Thursday Night Book Club - There There In-Person
Come discuss There There: A Novel by Tommy Orange. This debut novel has been called fierce, funny, and heartbreaking. It’s a multigenerational story of the beauty and despair woven through the lives of 12 separate protagonists who travel from various pasts to the Big Oakland Powwow. Oranges characters trace the many ways of being Native and American in a modern world that induces both poetry and rage as it relegates the idea of “Native” to either black and white photos of nobility or digital stereotypes of addiction and poverty. Many have called Orange’s first book required reading for the new millennium.
