Banned Book Club: The Giver In-Person

Celebrate the freedom to read with the Banned Book Club. In April, we're reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. We will discuss not only the book itself, but also the concepts of free speech and censorship as we encounter them in the modern world.

Synopsis

Life in the community where Jonas lives is idyllic. Children are assigned to family units. Citizens are assigned partners and jobs. No one asks questions.

Not until Jonas is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the secrets behind his fragile community. Gradually, he learns that power lies in feelings. But when his own power is put to the test, he may not be ready. Is it too soon? Or too late?
