ENCORE! Irish Fiddle with Kate Rose In-Person

Join us for another musical journey to the Irish countryside, as Kate Rose fiddles, sings, whistles, tells stories, and talks about the music that has shaped her life and the folk she learned it from. The event was so popular in September that we’re holding Part 2 with similar themes but new material, of interest to those who did and did not attend the first one.

Ranging from the lonesome sound of the County Clare traditional fiddling to original compositions of jigs and reels, and even fusion tunes that show how this living tradition has always expanded and thrived on other influences, the evening will delight your ears and touch your soul. All our roots connect, and our roots are our music. With the infectious rhythms, you might find yourself dancing and also learn some steps to understand and feel the music more deeply.

The event will interest musicians and listeners, all levels and backgrounds, and though not specifically geared toward kids, all ages are welcome. Inspired by the tradition of evening gatherings in western Ireland, this is part concert, part banter, part house dance, with hopefully some laughs and a good bit of participation if you feel like it.

Growing up in New Hampshire, Kate Rose started playing Irish and contra dance music in her early teens by sitting in and learning the traditional way, by ear. She then spent two years among farmers on the west coast of Ireland, gathering tunes and stories from the older generation. Kate plays with Flagstaff’s Celtic band Greenlaw, the contradance band Just Desserts, and solo for all occasions, as well as offering lessons and workshops. She also sings with Master Chorale Flagstaff, Singing Circle, and Threshold Choir and teaches French at Basis Flagstaff.
